2016 Junior Olympic Qualifiers & Division Championships: Registration Now Open on AskFred

Registration is now live on AskFred for the West-Rock Division 2016 Junior Olympic Qualifiers and Junior & Cadet Divisional Championships!

Top finishers will qualify to fence in Cleveland, OH, at the US Fencing Associations Junior Olympic Champions. Events with 4 or more fencers will be Division Championships. Pre-registration via AskFred closes on November 8th. Late entry period is from Nov. 9-15, with double entry fee. Absolutely NO entries will be accepted after November 15. Payments for events CANNOT be made online, but must be made at the door or checks can me mailed in advance — please see AskFred for details. Cash or check only.

All fencers must be a member of the West-Rock Division of the USFA to be eligible to compete in this competition.

West-Rock Fencer and Club Make the News

Westchester-Rockland Clubs Host Top-Level Summer Camps

Looking to sharpen your blade work, strengthen your footwork, and fence with top competitors over the summer? Westchester-Rockland clubs are hosting top-level camps that are sure to get you ready for the season ahead. Whether new to the sport, or a top competitor, there’s something to match your skill level and needs.

Fencing Academy of Westchester:

Weekly sessions for all three weapons, all ages, beginning July 27th. Session 5 (last session) begins August 24.

For beginners, the first 3 days will introduce each of the three weapons. By day 5, new fencers will be working alongside experienced competitors.

Nyack Fencing Academy

This years Summer Intensive Camp will combine students of multiple clubs, skill levels, and coaching styles to produce the best possible result for the campers. In partnership with other tri-state clubs, Nyack Fencing Academy presents a week-long sleep away camp at the Peddie School in New Jersey. Camp runs from August 2-8th. Space is limited! Enroll soon.

Thrust Fencing Academy

A one-week sabre camp open to both boys and girls ages 11-19 with fencing experiences that range from novice to nationally ranked fencers. All fencers must provide their own electrical equipment.The camp will be limited to fifty fencers. Day one is August 2nd — sign up now by clicking HERE.

West-Rock Fencer Sylvie Binder Takes Podium Placement at Cadet World Championships!

Congratulations to West-Rock fencer and Fencing Academy of Westchester member Sylvie Binder on a fabulous bronze medal finish at the Cadet World Championships!

Sylvie was seeded 18th out of pools and would upset the 2014 Cadet World Champion Marta Martyanova (RUS) in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter finals.

She finished 3rd, the highest American placement, and was joined in the top 8 by US teammate Stephanie Deschner (5th).

Sylvie Binder finished on the podium at the Cadet Worlds! Sounds like reason to celebrate to us!
