Junior Olympic Qualifiers are Underway at FAW

Junior events have hit the strip!

Register for the West-Rock 2017 Junior Olympic Qualifiers, happening on Dec. 18, 2016

West-Rock fencers can now register to compete in the qualifiers for 2017 Junior Olympics.

Fencers can register to fence in Junior (Under 20, birth years: 1997-2003) and Cadet (Under 17, birth years: 2000-2003).

Registration on askfred closes DEC 10, 2016.
DOUBLE ENTRY FEE, DEC 11-16.
NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED AFTER Midnight, DECEMBER 16 OR AT THE DOOR.

Email event organizers after Dec 10 for late entries.

Fees: $60 for each event.

Checks payable to West-Rock Division USFA.
Payments can be made at the door. Credit Cards not accepted.

If you register to compete in multiple events, payment is due for all events at check-in for the first event.

Lilov Nyack is Now the Rockland Fencers Club

NYACK, NY — Lilov Fencing Academy Nyack has closed its doors and reopened as the homebase of the Rockland Fencers Cub. Foil coach Irina Koroleva and epee coach Paul Kutelvas will join RFC epee coaches and founders Attila Lukacs and Tyler Overk.  The club’s dedicated team of fencing professionals looks forward to serving your fencing needs in its two locations:

RFC Nyack: The 40 Lydecker Street location is located on the water in downtown Nyack, NY and boasts 12 Olympic-sized fencing strips and a total of 6,000 sq f of training space.  RFC Nyack offers both foil & epee with a schedule that operates 6 days a week.

RFC JCC at 450 West Nyack Rd, will also continue to operate.

World Champion Sylvie Binder Earns Two Bronze Medals at Summer Nationals

Dallas, TX — 2016 Cadet World Champion Sylvie Binder (Armonk, Fencing Academy of Westchester) returned to domestic competition at the 2016 Summer National Championships and July Challenge this past weekend. The tournament is the largest fencing competition in the world and is taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX.

Binder made two podium appearances, claiming a bronze in both the Division 1 Women’s Foil and the Junior Women’s Foil.

Congratulations to Sylvie, her family, and her coaches Slava Grigoriev and Anya Katkova.

West-Rock Fencer Sylvie Binder Claims World title

Armonk native and Fencing Academy of Westchester member Sylvie Binder was just crowned World Champion in Cadet Women’s Foil!

Sylvie went undefeated in pools and was dominate through-out the day, winning her direct eliminate bouts 15-8, 15-3, and 15-6, before making it to the semi-finals. In the top four, she defeated Lara Bertola (ITA) 15-3 in three periods to advance to the gold medal bout, where she triumphed over Sera Azuma (JPN) 15-12 for the gold.

Way to go Sylvie!

This is Sylvie’s second Cadet World Championships. Last year, she finished with a bronze medal.

Sylvie will resume competition in Bourges, FRA tomorrow with the Cadet Team Event. She will also be representing West-Rock and the USA in the Junior (U20) Women’s Foil.
