West-Rock Fencer and Club Make the News
West-Rock foilist Sylvie Binder, who represented the US at the Cadet and Junior World Championships this past April, and brought home a bronze medal, has been making headlines. She was recently profiled by both News 12 and CBS. Check out her interview with CBS Sports Anchor Steve Overmyer:

West-Rock Fencer Takes Gold at Cadet World Cup
West-Rock foilist and Fencing Academy of Westchester fencer Sylvie Binder won this weekend’s Cadet Women’s World Cup in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany. The Sparkassen Cup is historically one of the most competitive international tournaments for U17 fencers. She was joined on the podium by US teammates Morgan Partridge (2nd), Stefanie Deschner (3rd), and Samantha Viqueira (7th).

At today’s Division 2 & 3 and Y14 National Qualifying Tournament, the West-Rock Division recognized US Junior and Cadet Men’s Epee World Championship Team member Joshua Cole and his coach Alex Zurabishvili. We also acknowledged Fencing Academy of Westchester Head Coach, Slava Grigoriev for his contribution to Westchester-Rockland Fencing.
Fencers competed today in 12 events across 2 categories. The top 4 finishers were recognized in each event with medals. 54 fencers from West-Rock qualified to the Division 2, Division 3, and Youth-14 Summer National Championships. Full results will be posted later today on askfred.net.
West-Rock Sends Two to the Cadet & Junior World Championships
Congratulations to West-Rock Division fencers Riya Dave and Joshua Cole who after a long season of domestic and world cup tournaments, earned berths on the US Cadet & Junior World Championship Teams.
Joshua earned a spot on both the Cadet and Junior Men’s Epee Teams. He is from Chappaqua and represents the Fencing Academy of Westchester, where he is coached by Alex Zurabishvili.
Riya, a Junior at Ardsley High School, will be fencing in Cadet Women’s Saber. She is coached by Jason Sheridan at Sheridan Fencing.
