West-Rock Fencer Sylvie Binder Claims World title

Armonk native and Fencing Academy of Westchester member Sylvie Binder was just crowned World Champion in Cadet Women’s Foil!

Sylvie went undefeated in pools and was dominate through-out the day, winning her direct eliminate bouts 15-8, 15-3, and 15-6, before making it to the semi-finals. In the top four, she defeated Lara Bertola (ITA) 15-3 in three periods to advance to the gold medal bout, where she triumphed over Sera Azuma (JPN) 15-12 for the gold.

Way to go Sylvie!

This is Sylvie’s second Cadet World Championships. Last year, she finished with a bronze medal.

Sylvie will resume competition in Bourges, FRA tomorrow with the Cadet Team Event. She will also be representing West-Rock and the USA in the Junior (U20) Women’s Foil.

Keep bringing home the hardware, Champ!

First Medals Given out at National Qualifying Tournament

Summer National Qualifiers are underway at the Fencing Academy of Westchester, in Hawthorne, NY.

Congratulations to our first medalists on the day: men’s saber fencers Zachary Hoffman (gold), Benjamin Schlur (silver), and John Fantana (bronze)

Sylvie Binder Qualifies for Junior and Cadet World Team. Raises Dollars for Trip and Charity

After a long season of domestic and international events West-Rock fencer Sylvie Binder qualified for her second Cadet World Championships this year and also earned a berth on the Junior team. She will represent the US in France in April.

Congratulations Sylvie!

The 16 year old Armonk native and member of the Fencing Academy of Westchester is running a “Rally Me” campaign that will help her family join her in France and raise money for the United Nations Human Rights Office.

Deadline for National Qualifiers Pre-Registration Extended

The deadline for preregistering for the Y14 and Division II and III qualifiers has been extended to March 13.

Fees are doubled from March 14-18th, so sign up early!

Are you old or young enough to compete?

To fence in Y14, you must be born between 2001 and 2004. For the senior events, Division II and III, athletes must have been born in 2002 or earlier.

If you’re a veteran fencer, register for the Division II/III qualifier, fence, and you’re qualified to compete in your age group at Summer Nationals!

Registration Now Open for the West-Rock Division 2016 National Championships

Registration for the West-Rock Division 2016 National Championship Qualifiers is now open on AskFred!

Qualifiers are for the Y14, Division 2, and Division 3 events and are on Sunday, March 20, at the Fencing Academy of Westchester.

Pre-registration on AskFred closes March 11th. Fees are double from March 12-18. So sign-up fast!

Event fees are $60/event and can be paid in cash or check at the door. AskFred is not collecting advance payment.  The Division 2 and Division 3 qualifiers will be run as a single “Senior” qualifying tournament.
